Designed for a site at the top of the Nelson Port Hills. This steep and narrow site posed a great challenge with the reward of amazing sea views. A two level design achieves the spatial requirements with living & access on the ground floor and sleeping & office on the upper, all with clear views and strong sunlight. The house follows the contours of the site adding visual interest to the houses appearance. Warm timber decking has been used to overcome the sites steepness to provide usable outdoor space. Contrasting cladding’s define the differing forms of the house and break up the visual mass. Heavy textured plaster cladding becomes the central point of interest on the exterior while the cedar helps to consolidate the buildings appearance
