Situated on Rocks Road, overlooking the entrance to the Nelson harbor, this house makes a statement in modern living.  Designed to capture the views and provide privacy.  The smooth white ground level facade forms a visual plinth for the main house to rest on, allowing the ground level to blend in with the adjacent buildings while maintaining it’s modernist appearance.  The main living space objective is to absorb the stunning view and sea-side environment.  An exposed structure allows for use of full height sliding glass doors on each side, which once open creates the illusion of a covered outdoor space. Functional vertical louvres on the top level contrast with the vivid Corten cladding, allowing sun penetration while providing privacy.  In it’s greater setting it would appear as a contradiction to the surroundings, but it wouldn’t be the first time in the architectural world – where a building becomes a statement that flexes the conventional boundary’s and entertains creativity.
