A simple high design bach exclusively for holiday use. Situated near the sea, the design focused not on the views but practical function, creating a simple and unrestricted atmosphere where both indoor & outdoor environments became merged, further increasing the sense of space. The building is designed to achieve short stay, high density living, with personal space being marginalized in favor of family connection. The interior is simple and understated; timber paneling forms the main feature contributing to a design for durability over the years of family use. The spaces are intentionally smaller, however the open plan arrangement absorbs this, making a spacious family room. An ambient wood fire replaces the non-existent TV. The exterior is a concentration in simplicity with single cladding, contrasting roof forms and corten louvre screens for privacy. The bach’s humble simplicity is often overlooked but in good design is always present in the midst of a good family holiday.
